Wave Arts - WaveSurround plugin for WinAmp

If you use WinAmp to play your music, then you should try this DSP

plugin from Wave Arts, called WaveSurround. I installed this plugin

the other day, and it makes a huge difference to the sound quality.

What it does is create four "virtual speakers" that you can actually

see and move around on a sort of grid/graph. Move either pair of

speakers and a few seconds later, the sound will change noticably.

The music can seem to be coming from behind you, or from a longer

distance away, or from inside a large, empty building -- many kinds

of effects. You don't need a set of 5.1 speakers to use this, in fact

it was especially designed for a two-speaker system. There's even a

special setting for headphones, which I use all the time now. It

works best with your two, real speakers if they are positioned an

equal distance away from you on either side, or with headphones.

I have combined two utilities in this file: 1) a plugin for WinAmp

that allows you to load a special type of plugin known as a "VST"

("virtual sound technology"? I dunno). And the VST itself, from

WaveSurround, with the "keygen" to register it:

First, run the VST_Winamp_Bridge.exe file; it installs itself in

the WinAmp \plugin folder.

Second, open the \h-ww403 folder, and run setup.exe. Install the

VST -and- the DX parts of the program. It doesn't matter where you

install them -- you will be able to 'browse' to whatever folder

you installed it in from inside WinAmp.

Third, run WinAmp, -> Visualization -> Select plugin -> DSP/Effect

and choose 'VST Host DSP 1.0 for WinAmp' from the list, and then

'Configure active plugin' from the bottom of the screen.

Fourth, click on 'Load DLL' and browse to the folder containing

WaveSurround, and choose the WaveSurround.dll (NOT the

WaveSurroundDX.dll file).

Fifth, click on File -> Register. Also run the keygen.exe program

and copy the key it generates (CTRL-C)and paste it (CTRL-V) into

the Register window for complete functionality.

Lastly, now you can see the graphical display of the four speakers.

Play around with the Presets, and try moving the pairs of speakers

with your mouse, while playing music. Click on the guy's head in

the picture, and he'll be wearing headphones, so now there are the

headphones and just one other pair of speakers. NOTE: it takes about

2 or 3 seconds after you change a preset or the speaker positions to

notice the difference in sound. I think once you try this thing, you

won't want to get rid of it.

And by the way, there is another plugin that allows you to "stack"

several DSP's at a time (Multiple-DSP_Stacker.exe), but I find it

usually causes problems, either WinAmp crashes, or none of the

stacked DSPs work correctly... so that means you can only use one DSP

at a time. I had RockSteady running before, but I had to dump that

to use WaveSurround. Let me know if you have any questions.
