It is very hard for any animation to make ants look cute or sympathetic, and The Ant Bully labours under this burden, despite a promising dramatic premise, and a very impressive roster of star voices: Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Paul Giamatti. A little boy terrorises an ant colony near his house - but only because he is being bulled by a bigger kid. The ant leader uses a magic potion to make him as tiny as an ant; the kid learns life lessons about friendship and respect, and he and his new ant pals plan on teaching the human bully a lesson. Writer-director John A Davis has one or two nice touches, but the film is disposable.
